For fans of the TV series or the TV movies, it was a real blast. Cox managed to capture the playfulness and adventure of each.

The TV movies and the series each have a slightly different vibe and he did a good job of making that distinction. For fans, you know what the voices of the actors portraying the characters sound like so the narrator doesn't sound quite like them, and it probably would have been a mistake to try.

She does do a good job though with distinct voices and pacing. I think the book would be approachable for someone not familiar with the TV version and enjoy it as just a fun, lighthearted adventure. Anybody who's a fan of military style action thrillers is going to love this.

Feb 7, A thriller by Hank Parker which is a bio-thriller and quite frankly a bit of a disappointment. Kernel of an interesting idea here ticks as bio-engineered disease vectors but flat characters and ultimately too many gaps in logic to forgive.

I also finished The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley and while not perfect, she certainly writes some interesting and thought-provoking stuff.

She might not be for everyone but she stretches the boundaries of SF and I think that's good. It looks like a blast.

Off to a good start in Looks like only one clunker in my first dozen reads! It doesn't usually get much better than that. Often I don't mind the clunkers because it makes good writing seem even better. I've read a couple of books by Hurley and I agree with your assessment of not perfect but interesting and thought-provoking.

Her stuff is a bit more violent than I usually read but the characters and worlds are so interesting that I keep reading. I'll have to look out for The stars are legion. That's a good point. After the last disappointing audiobook, I'm now listening to the far superior Broken Promise by Linwood Barclay and I actually sighed as I settled into the narrative because it was so much better.

Hurley's stuff is definitely bloody and violent, but she holds your attention!

I actually started this series out of order and listened to the second book first. I knew kind of how the book was going to resolve because of this, but Linwood Barclay is such a good writer that I more than thoroughly enjoyed the journey.
